Best Practices

While Ignites dust product is remarkably simple to use and can be applied in numerous ways to equine footing there are several best practices which Ignite recommends ensuring the successful use of the product.

Follow Recommended Application and Water Usage Rates – Ignite dust control is a SCIENCE based solution to dust control. It is an extremely effective dust control agent and footing conditioner that works three-dimensionally within and throughout the footing by coating the footing from the inside out. As a result, a calculated amount of product is required to be applied to the facility footing.

Reducing or increasing this application rate may impact the efficiency of the product.

Water Equipment Sizing – Ignite dust control can be applied through most watering systems, however if users are restricted by tank volumes and must split their application between two or more rounds of watering, please ensure that mixing rates are adjusted to accommodate the water tank that is available.

For example, if 1000gal of water/Ignite dust control is required to treat a surface and a 500gal tank is available please ensure the tank water/Ignite dust control mixture is appropriate for that volume of tank then complete the required number of applications required (two in this example) to distribute the prescribed volume of Ignite dust control onto the facility surface.

Pump sizing and Pressures – While Ignite dust control can be applied to facility surface with numerous sizes of equipment, ranging between handheld siphon sprayers and small farm sprayers to industrial or The use of larger pumping equipment is recommended to support the application of Ignite dust control on larger facility surfaces (riding arenas, hot walkers or corrals). Ignite recommends the use of roller or other PTO driven pumping systems in combination with brass or other metal nozzles. This supports the fast and effective application of water onto a larger surface. Alternative water distribution or pumping systems are also acceptable, however users should consider larger nozzle diameters without the use of internal screens, as Ignite dust control increases the viscosity of water.

Mixing – Slowly add Ignite dust control into a partially full water tank and thoroughly mix into solution. We recommend that you slowly sift Ignite dust control into running water as it enters a water tank. If possible, it is also recommended that the tank mixture be thoroughly agitated prior to application to ensure a uniform application over the entire facility surface. Failure to thoroughly mix the product will result in large lumps of Ignite dust control settling out of solution and may result in clogging or partial clogging of spray equipment. If users experience problems with clogging the use of bleach, or other equivalent products, is recommended to break down the chemical bonds in our product.

Application of Ignite dust control– While Ignite dust control will move and spread throughout the surface of a facility through riding, grooming, foot traffic etc. A uniform application over the entire surface of the facility is the foundation to the performance of the product in the footing. Untreated areas within a facility will continue to generate dust and remain unconditioned until Ignite dust control is incorporated into them.

An even, uniform application of the product is central in getting the most out of your Ignite dust control application.

Incorporate Ignite dust control– While Ignite dust control is applied to the surface of a facility through a watering system, it works best when thoroughly incorporated into the footing. For best results it is strongly recommended that the facility ground be thoroughly worked to incorporate Ignite dust control throughout the depth of the riding or performance footing.

Applying Additional Water – Prior to applying additional water, grooming or maintenance is recommended to determine if it additional watering required. Ignite dust control is extremely effective at controlling moisture throughout the footing profile so while the very top of a footing surface (1- 2mm) may dry initially, grooming is recommended to confirm that the facility footing requires additional water.

Follow up Applications – Ignite dust control is an excellent dust control and footing conditioner product but in the way of all good things, it too comes to an end and will need to eventually be reapplied to facility footing. When an additional product application is required indications such as the consistency “fluffiness” of the footing as well as the watering frequency and volume will start to revert to conditions prior to the products application. At which time, an additional application of Ignite dust control is recommended to re-treat the footing.

Wear Basic Protective Equipment – While Ignite dust control is safe to use, Ignite recommends the use of gloves, basic eye protection and a basic dust mask to protect against abrasion and any possible skin, eye, or other irritations.
